Last week I took the kids in my class on a walk. We were finishing up on our bird unit and decided to visit a nearby duck pond. We found plenty of birds and, as a bonus, found Spring as well!
Beautiful blossoms lined our walk.
The walk was pretty long and it was one of the warmest days we've had in awhile. The kiddos were troopers!
We saw many birds: ducks, geese, swans, seagulls, a hawk, and many more! We found something even more exciting: a nest full of large eggs! We think they may be the eggs of some Canadian geese we had seen nearby. The children were amazed!
This guy cracked me up and reminded me of a duck that I used to visit in San Diego that I had named "Amadeus" (as in Motzart). Check out the hair! Stylish!
This pond is also a home to MANY turtles. The kids wanted to catch one so it could be friends with Courtney, our pet turtle.
After looking at the loveliness all around us for a bit, we sat at a picnic bench and took out our clipboards and crayons so we could create drawings of what we had seen and what we were still seeing. We also passed around a couple pairs of binoculars. So much fun! It was a beautiful day and a wonderful way to welcome Spring! In the afternoon I pull half of the kids out for a special kindergarten prep time. Today we wrote an acrostic poem! We brain stormed a bunch of words that make us think of Spring and also things that happen during the Spring. This is what we came up with! Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteAw, how much fun! The kiddos are so cute!
ReplyDeleteMan, I wish spring looked like that here...we've had nothing but gray weather, temperatures that jump up and down, and thunderstorms. It's hailed at least 3 times in the past two weeks! It snowed this morning, or at least it couldn't make up its mind if it was snow or rain. Maybe I should move to California...
